Colombo is commercial capital, busy and vibrant with a mixture of modern life and colonial buildings. Visit the center of commerce and trading- the fort and pettah, and the cinnamon gardens area which is Colombo’s most fashionable residential address. And then visit the old Wolfendhal Dutch Church (built in 1749), Hindu temple, the famous Gangarama temple situated on the Beira Lake and the Devatagaha Mosque. Other highlights will be old and new parliaments, independence square and Galle Face Green.
Day 2
Drive to Kandy. Enroot visit to elephant orphanage at Pinnawala. It is one of the best places in the world where you can blend in with hundreds of these majestic animals at close range. The elephants are in semi wild conditions, officially you are not allowed to touch them, but you do get the opportunity to feed baby elephants and touch some of the large ones when taken to the river for a bath. Continue to Kandy and check in to the hotel. Evening visit to Daladha Maligawa (Temple Of The Tooth) where Lord Buddha’s relic tooth is being kept. It is considered the holiest place for Buddhists not just in Sri Lanka but by the believers across the globe.
Day 3
Today you will visit the Royal Botanical Gardens. Conceived originally in 1371 as the Queen’s Pleasure Garden. The park was converted into a 60 hectare Botanical Garden in 1821. Arguably the finest of their kind in Asia are extensive well kept lawns, pavilions, an orchid house with an outstanding collection, an octagon conservatory, fernery, banks of bamboo, and numerous flower borders with cannas, hibiscus, chrysanthemums, croton and colorful bougainvilleas. You will see unusual exotic species, especially palms (Palmyra, talipot, royal, cabbage) and ficus elastica elastic, an amazing avenue of drunken looking pines, and some magnificent old specimen trees. In all there are about 4000 labeled species. Then you can proceed to do some shopping for your loved ones at home or for yourself to remember this journey. In the evening you will experience the Kandyan and cultural dance show.
