Anuradhapura- Dambulla- Kandy
This phenomenal ‘Cultural Triangle’ encompasses no fewer than five UNESCO World Heritage Sites. At two points of the triangle (Kandy is the third), the ancient cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa represent the early phases of the nation’s cultural development. Anuradhapura was the capital for 1500 years.
Day 1
Meet & greet at the airport by our representative and transfer to Dambulla.
Day 2
Sigiriya is an exceptional natural sight for a fortress, vast flat- topped 200m high Lion Rock dominates the surrounding countryside of the central forest and from the top offers views that stretch as for as the day zone and south to the central highlands. For many visitors this impressive sight is their favorite in the whole of Sri Lanka. The rewards of Sigiriya, with its palace, famous frescoes and beautiful under gardens, justify the steep climb. Frequently labeled the “Eighth Wonder of the World”, it was designated a World Heritage Site in 1982. Then visit to Polonnaruwa, whose city walls today encircle the island’s most rewarding archaeological complex, its highlight, the serene rock-cut recumbent Buddha at the Gal Vihara.
Day 3
Visit the richly painted cave temple at Dambulla which lie atop a vast rocky outcrop date to the first century BC and form one of Sri Lanka’s World Heritage Sites. (Designated in 1991). Afternoon visit to Anuradhapura. Anuradhapura is Sri Lanka’s most sacred city. Along with Mihinthale, it presents the first real home of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, and contains some of the island’s most sacred Buddhist sites. It is here that the Sri Maha Bodhi Tree was planted from a cutting from the original Bo under which the Buddha received Enlightenment, to this day drawing thousands of pilgrims from around the world.
Day 4
Drive to Kandy. Visit Daladha Maligawa (Temple Of The Tooth) where Lord Buddha’s relic tooth is being kept. It is considered the holiest place for Buddhists not just in Sri Lanka but by the believers across the globe. In the evening you can visit cultural show, which offers a very vibrant and unique show of Sri Lankan traditional dances, in the form of Kandy Cultural Show.
Day 5
Leave to Airport for your next destination.
